On Thursday, United Arab Emirates officials named five new suspects, including one Israeli citizen, in the investigation surrounding the January killing of Hamas operative Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The Israeli in question, Zev Barkan, has also been on New Zealand’s wanted list since 2004 for passport fraud, according to The Journal.

Mahmoud al-Mabhouh was killed in January by a team of assassins, who broke into his Dubai hotel room and killed him in complete silence, leaving a 'do not disturb' sign on the door. Hotel security cameras captured images of the alleged killers riding the elevator with Mabhouh, just prior to the assassination.

Since the killing, Dubai police have identified more than 32 suspects, and released 27 photos of who, based on allegedly forged passports, were purportedly involved in the assassination.

Dubai police have implicated The Mossad in spearheading the assassination, though Israel has denied any involvement in the incident.

According to the Journal, a spokesman for Israel's foreign ministry has claimed that Mr. Barkan had never worked for the government.

Ronald K. Noble, Interpol Secretary-General, reportedly praised the Dubai police for their "in-depth" investigation, saying that "that's what is most extraordinary, the depth, thoroughness and openness of the Dubai police's investigation of an assassination that took months to plan, but only hours to execute."

Dubai police commander Dahi Khalfan Tamim said last month that the investigation into the Mabhouh assassination had revealed that supposedly, there were residents in Gulf who had worked for the Israeli Mossad agency. "Elements in our society have been hired for Israeli goals," Tamim said, though he did not elaborate.
