The Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company is launching a new playwriting festival. In The Beginning: A Jewish Playwrights Festival is designed to develop the canon of Canadian Jewish theatre writers.

"We know this festival will garner great attention and support and be a beacon for our company in years to follow," said Avery Saltzman, co-Artistic Director of the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company, in a statement. "This festival will showcase emerging Jewish playwrights by utilizing established Jewish directors and actors, by bringing together members of the Jewish community and by sharing new Jewish stories that need to be heard."

Four new plays have been selected from more than 70 submissions. They include Pillars of Salt by Michael Ross Albert, The Three of Us by Ron Fromstein, Zay Shtil by Bekky O'Neil and Corpus by Darrah Teitel.

The festival will take place at the Miles Nadal JCC between May 10 and May 13. For more information, visit www.hgjewishtheatre.com.
