A film concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is not on the official Cannes lineup right now, but news sources have reported that it could be a possible late addition.

Miral, directed by Julian Schnabel, tells the story of Hind Husseini, a Palestinian woman who established an orphanage in Jerusalem after the 1948 partition of Palestine and the creation of the state of Israel. Miral is a 17-year-old girl who grew up in the orphanage and finds herself torn between political activism and education as the road to peace.

Husseini is played by Palestinian actress Hiam Abbass, and the film also stars Willem Dafoe, Alexander Siddig, and Freido Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) as Miral.

The official Cannes lineup was announced this morning. Nevertheless, Variety noted that several films (including Miral) could be added in the coming weeks.

However, Jeffrey Wells of Hollywood-Elsewhere.com reported that Schnabel told him that he will be bypassing the Cannes Film Festival with his film and instead debut it in Venice and Toronto.
