If you don’t immediately think of exquisite cuisine when you think of Israel, you have probably never been there. Listen up, Foodies! It’s time to add Tel Aviv to your culinary destinations wish list. The prestigious “Saveur” magazine has recently named Tel Aviv one of the “Outstanding Culinary Destinations” in the small international cities category. The city is certainly in good company, being named alongside Florence, Italy and Lyon, France. With over 4,500 restaurants, it is clear that Tel Aviv takes food seriously. Take a look at our list of Tel Aviv’s top ten restaurants, but consider yourself warned… reading this list may result in a voracious appetite!

Mul-Yam

1. MUL-YAM

Chef Yoram Nitzan’s renowned restaurant has been noted as one of the 150 best restaurants in the world by the prestigious culinary la table Grand du Monde since 2003. Seafood is the star of the show here with menu items such as white asparagus and French toast with truffle cream and Gruyere fondue and lobster cooked sous-hand with pumpkin cream and arancini foie gras mousse.

Abraxas Tzafon

2. ABRAXAS TZAFON

Chef Eyal Shani’s restaurant features organic New Israeli style dishes with locally sourced meat and produce. The menu includes dishes such as golden aubergine resting on tomato clouds swirled in tahini and lamb ragu and root vegetables roasted 6 hours in a steel pot resting on focaccia.

3. BRASSERIE

You may not automatically think of dining at a French restaurant while visiting Israel, but tucked into Rabin Square, you will find delicious Parisian style food such as roast chicken with potatoes dauphinois and entrecote on the bone.

La Repubblica di Ronimotti

4. LA REPUBBLICA DI RONIMOTTI

La Repubblica, an urban-Italian restaurant, situated in the heart of Tel Aviv, serves an authentic Italian menu, and enjoys the city’s unique ambience. Owners Roni Belfer and Motti Sofer believe in local, seasonal and fresh food, that is loyal to the rich Italian culinary tradition. Specializing in fresh pizza, homemade pasta, antipasti, meat and fish, La Repubblica prides itself on the use of only the freshest local ingredients. They even have their own organic garden to supply the produce for their authentic Italian cuisine. Items on the menu include dishes such as Pappardelle Verdi with zucchini, asparagus, spinach, cherry tomato confit, and ricotta fresca; Risotto of the day, and Scalopina alla Milanese. 5. HERBERT SAMUEL

Often hailed as the best restaurant in Tel Aviv, Chef Jonathan Roshfeld’s restaurant features delicious New Israeli style cuisine. The menu includes items such as Jerusalem artichoke chestnut and truffle soup and homemade cannelloni with veal, Swiss chard, and Parmigiana Reggiono. The popularity of this restaurant means reservations should be made well in advance.
