Recently, in an interview with actor Jon Hamm, television host Jon Stewart says he might become Jewish super-hero after retiring from television.

The two, riffing off the title of Hamm’s upcoming movie, Minions, just might have come up with something even funnier - and infinitely more Jewish - ‘Minyans’.

According to Jewish tradition, a ‘minyan’ refers to a group of 10 men who are required for certain religious obligations, including prayer or recitation. As such, the ‘minyan man’ (according to Stewart’s unofficial term) would be the 10th man to join, thus turning a group of 9 men into a minyan.

“Here’s what I hope this movie’s about, okay? 9 Jewish men looking for a 10th so that they may celebrate Shabbos!” Stewart says to Hamm about the upcoming film.

Though Jon Hamm is not Jewish, he seems well aware of the Jewish prayer quorum. He even knows how to spell it. He claims in jest that the title was spelled wrong, after Stewart introduces the premise. “You would think they would have spelled it correctly but, no. They didn’t. It would’ve been m-i-n-y-a-n-s,” Hamm says.

“I’ll be the guy going around to groups of 9 Jewish people going, ‘You need a 10th?’ ‘You want a tefillin?’ ‘What do you wanna do?'” Stewart says jokingly.

For Stewart, who is soon to retire from the Daily Show and sure to have “nothing but free time,” the life of a Jewish superhero, admittedly, looks pretty good.

“I’m the minyan man! I would just go around. I would like that very much.”

And if Hamm plays his cards right maybe he can score a producer credit on the soon-to-follow film debut.
