The 'Daily Show' host was essentially speechless after seeing Cruz's audition

Jon Stewart, watching in horror, said what we were all thinking after the horror that is Ted Cruz auditioning for The Simpsons was shown on BuzzFeed.

Cruz, who recently dug himself into a hole after defending Donald Trump’s racist comments that Mexico was sending “rapists and drug dealers” to the United States, tried his best (I think) to impersonate beloved Simpsons characters. The presidential candidate donned the voices of Mr. Burns, Ned Flanders, and Lisa Simpson before I stopped watching about 20 seconds into the video.

Stewart said it best when he called Cruz out on it. He made it just about as far as I did before the camera panned back to Stewart’s face. A look or horror mixed with speechlessness left me convinced that a piece of his soul died after witnessing that, much like the rest of us.

Known for his recent commentary on Antonin Scalia’s opposition to gay marriage, and heavier subjects like racism in America, Stewart held nothing back when it came to Cruz. “I have to give Ted Cruz credit,” he said. “Normally you have to wait until you’re actually president to do that much damage to something America holds so dear.”
