After the end of the American Civil War, the Confederate flag became officially recognized, however, this has been a subject of controversy with regards to politics and race.
The heartbreaking shooting in Charleston, South Carolina facilitated a debate about the true meaning of the Confederate flag, and how it serves to implicate racial minorities.
In response to this uproar, a man from Louisiana requested that the controversial flag be printed on a cake that he was to have made by Walmart.
Days prior to this request, Walmart had removed all products featuring the Confederate flag from their shelves, and subsequently denied the Louisiana customer, Chuck Netzhammer’s request.
Outraged at Walmart, Netzhammer requested that a flag from the terrorist group, ISIL be featured on the cake, to see if they'd comply – something to which Walmart agreed to.
“I am highly offended, distraught, and in tears over the fact you pull American history off your shelves, but allow the offensive battle flag of terrorists, sex slavers, be-headers of Christians, burners of gays to be made in your store,” said Netzhammer in a Youtube comment.
Walmart, however, alleges that the store made the cake by mistake.
“An associate in a local store did not know what the design meant and made a mistake,” said a company spokesperson. “The cake should not have been made and we apologize.”
