If you were interested in taking part in television history and watched David Letterman's send-off from Late Night on May 20th, then you likely witnessed a distinguished cadre of comedians and celebrities crack jokes about Letterman, and on his impending departure from a position he held for 33 years.

Said comedians include Alec Baldwin, Barbara Walters, Steve Martin, Jerry Seinfeld, Jim Carey, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Peyton Manning, Chris Rock, Tina Fey and Bill Murray. Foo Fighters were also there to play Letterman's favorite song, apparently: "Everlong."

We always knew Letterman had good taste in music.

The jokes, of course, were spot on, notably Rock - “I’m just glad your show is being given to another white guy” and Louis-Dreyfus: “Thanks for letting me take part in another hugely disappointing series finale.”

If you're a Seinfeld fan, that one particularly struck a chord of laughter, and had many wondering what Jerry thought of the joke, and if he was in it.

Turns out, he was.

Speaking to Vulture on Saturday, Seinfeld, said he loved the joke.

“The writers had a different joke that Julia and I did not like and she came to me and she said, ‘I don’t know if this joke works,’ and I read the joke and I go, ‘No, that’s a bad joke,’” Seinfeld said.

“I’ve been at this awhile; you don’t always know 100 percent, but in this case I knew this is a loser,” Seinfeld continued, “and so we went to the writers and it was quite a long negotiation and then they came up with this other line, which was sensational. I wonder actually now, I was thinking, ‘Did they have that, or did they write that? Maybe they didn’t want to hurt my feelings.’ That’s what it may have been: that they had that joke and they didn’t want to hurt my feelings and then, of course, they don’t know I don’t have feelings.”

Obviously Seinfeld can laugh at himself. C'mon guys.

Meanwhile, the 6th season of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee starts on Weds.
