Lauryn Hill Succumbs to BDS Pressure, Cancels Israel Show

#KillingMeSoftly social media campaign likely reason Ms. Hill has decided to cancel her Thursday performance in Rishon Lezion

Israeli enthusiasts of international music oft run into difficulties before their favorite artists and bands, scheduled to perform in Tel Aviv or Rishon Lezion or Jerusalem - perform in Israel, due to the perpetual efforts of the BDS Movement, which has convinced many a musician to boycott the country.

Even when the movement's ridiculous mascot Roger Waters isn't parading some open letter he's written to Robbie Williams or Alicia Keys (both of whom said NO to BDS by the way), its still gained significant momentum, particularly since 2014's 50-day war between Hamas and the IDF.

Today, BDS triumphed, as Israeli fans of R&B singer Lauryn Hill, who rose to prominence during her time with The Fugees and thanks to her album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, were dealt with news that they've sadly, likely, become accustomed to hearing: your favorite artist will not be performing after all.

Wipe that smile off your face Roger Waters.

The campaign for Hill to cancel, which has been in full force over the past few days, cultivated with a tweet from the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation:

“@MsLaurynHill 11,000 people asking you to boycott Israel. Please respect Palestinian call.”

“The presence of artists is routinely used by Israel to legitimize its policies and maintain its reputation as a normal member of the international community,” the Campaign added.

Referencing the popular Fugees track, a campaign accompanied by the hashtag #KillingMeSoftly then picked up speed, depicting Hill with the words “Hey Lauren You’re #KillingMeSoftly,” in a video (see above) of Pro-Palestinians singing it as well, but in their own lyrics - “Killing me softly with your bombs.” Pro-Palestinians also took to Twitter to urge Hill to cancel.

With nearly 5,000 views in just two days, moments ago, Hill announced that she had succumbed to BDS pressure, via this note on Facebook:

That's truly a shame, Ms. Hill. By cancelling, you may succeed in alienating Israeli fans of your music who've done nothing to deserve not being able to watch you perform - despite the fact that you're notoriously late, and usually alter crowd favorites to the point that they're unrecognizable.

Even despite that, we really wanted to add you to this list.
