From entrepreneurs to philanthropists, entertainers to doctors, this list places a spotlight on a small sampling of the spectacular, innovative, and passionate Jews that call Toronto home.

Top 20 Under 40: Adam Bledin

Age: 31

Toronto’s Adam Bledin is the President and Creative Director of Rebus Productions Ltd., which holds the brand LAZYPANTS – arguably the world’s most comfortable pants.

LAZYPANTS, a unisex line for adults and kids, has built their brand on designing clothing exclusively for the “after”. Instead of creating fashionable apparel to show off on the street, Bledin wanted to design something that people would look forward to changing into once they got home… but that doesn’t stop LAZYPANTS customers from bringing that comfort with them everywhere they go.

Manufactured entirely in Canada, LAZYPANTS are a favorite around the world, worn by everyone from children to celebrities including Mila Kunis and Kourtney Kardashian.

Started in 2012, LAZYPANTS originally began as a “throw-in product” to a denim company Bledin’s brother had developed. The item immediately took off and became so popular that Bledin decided to invest his time exclusively into building a premium comfortwear brand, which was the birth of LAZYPANTS.

Bledin puts himself into everything that he does. While doodling ideas for a LAZYPANTS logo, he was inspired by the things in his life that mean the most to him including family, friends, and his love of Toronto. He decided on an image of birds in flight, meant to represent the positive inspiration he acquires from those he loves, those that motivate him to take risks, take flight and ultimately, fly free. His mother’s ongoing battle with cancer has given new meaning to his own determination. Her initials “NB” are sewn into every pair of LAZYPANTS created, and the original style “NIKI” was named after her.

In addition to being inspired by his mother, Bledin notes his grandfather, former therapist, and a fellow fashion designer as great inspirations.

“My grandfather was legendary. He always insisted on having proper manners. He is definitely one of my biggest influences. As well, Brian Levy Young, my old therapist has helped me get through a lot. My mother who has stood by me. Frazier the creator of Kitson in California, definitely is an influence by telling me stuff straight,” Bledin explained in an interview with Shalom Life.

Over the past three years, LAZYPANTS has expanded from one incredibly comfortable pair of sweatpants to an entire line including leggings and children’s wear. Bledin is currently developing an upscale collection.

Bledin and LAZYPANTS give back to the community, supporting Think Don’t Shoot and Ovarian Cancer Canada. They are in the midst of launching their very own charity, “a first of its kind by the end of the year.”

Bledin points out that his “mind is always working”, but definitely knows how to kick back in his LAZYPANTS. He enjoys marathoning Netflix shows on the couch with his dog, listening to Dave Matthews Band, eating Mee Grobs from Vanipha Lanna, and watching concerts at Molson Amphitheatre.

LAZYPANTS is expanding at a rapid pace, with Bledin having his eyes set on “running a successful company that is a world wide brand” in five years.

And what are his goals for 20 years down the road?

“In 20 years, I hopefully will be retired and LAZY.”
