Season 2 of Broad City premiered last night, and with it came some controversy, stemming from a plotline that revolved around the possible rape of a male character.

In the scene, Abbi has sex with Male Stacy (played by Seth Rogen). He passes out from the heat, but instead of stopping, Abbi decides to keep going until she finishes.

"So, to clarify, you RAPED him," Ilana says to her later.

"No … he seriously wanted it," Abbi insists.

"That is literally what THEY say."

"I really mean it."

"So do THEY … Dude, did you finish?"

“My god, I raped him. I’m a monster.”

Some are saying that the episode went too far and that rape is never an okay thing to make light of or joke about in any context, but others see it as subversive and meant to make you think about the reality of rape and take it more seriously. This is obviously up for individual viewers to decide, but no matter what side of the fence you fall on, there’s no doubt that the episode has created a lot of important dialogue.

What did you think of Thursday evening’s premiere episode?
