Adam Lambert is back on American Idol, but this time he is sitting in the judge’s seat. The former contestant filled in for Keith Urban on the latest episode of the show, and doled out criticism and praise for the various performers. One performer who earned his praise was 18 year New Jersey singer Jax.

"I was drawn in immediately," he said after her performance of I Want to Hold Your Hand by The Beatles. "You have the 'it' thing."

But not everyone was so lucky. Lambert was also tough on other contestants, criticising them for being “cookie-cutter” or not having the “wow” factor.

"This competition puts you through the ringer, and it takes a strong, polished performer to pull it off," he told one hopeful.

Another highlight of the evening was when Harry Connick Jr. convinced Lambert to recreate his American Idol audition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. Lambert obliged and belted out each note without fault, reminding everyone of why he excelled in the singing competition as a contestant in the first place and why he made such a great judge…. Oh, and why Queen decided to take him on as their front man full time.
