HAG SAMEACH!!!

Many of us are awaiting a two-week break come the latter half of December, and you know what that means! Babymaking season. For us older millenials in our late twenties/early thirties, you'll notice that Facebook has transformed from a platform for drunken nights' pictures to baby photos.

The circle of life continues.

Naturally, as the etiquette entails, we want to give our newly-minted mama and papa friends gifts to celebrate these wonderful occasions, but for many of us, we want to stand out and give them something they'll remember, rather than the usual Baby Gap sweater or stuffed teddy bear. Enter Painted Baby Names, a unique, colorful, and wonderful way to celebrate the naming decision your friends made, and also, the birth of their new baby girl or boy.

Perfect for any nursery.

Created by San Francisco-based cartoonist Michael Capozzola - "I'm actually Jewish, despite my last name," he tells me - Painted Baby Names offer a collection of hand-painted baby names that happen to be great gifts for friends and family members, particularly for Hanukkah. Capozzola recently created a website - powered by Israeli platform Wix - and also opened up an ETSY shop.

The artist has been drawing and cartooning his whole life, and "loves doing it," he informs me.

If his name sounds familiar to you, it may be cause you've seen, received or read about his Hanukkah cartoon card, Menorah Blahnik, which is a best seller online and currently available at the Jewish Museum in New York, The Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, and also, various JCC's and Judaica gift shops across the U.S.

"I create each name by hand-painting each letter in a whimsical shape using pen & ink /watercolor on watercolor paper," Capozzola tells me about Painted Baby Names. "I started creating the baby name art as gifts for friends- and inevitably it turned in to commissions by people who spotted the art while visiting the art."

As for Hanukkah, Capozzola has his own tradition, where he "bounces around the homes of eight different friends and light candles with them and their families."

"I always loved it as a kid," he adds.

Baby Painted Names come at a very reasonable price, with each letter costing $7, with a maximum cost of $50. Each piece of art he creates is custom, and no name is too long.

To buy his famous "Menorah Blahnik" hanukkah card, click here. For more information on Painted Baby Names, visit here for his website, or here for his ETSY page.

Of course, if you want to WIN one, see the details outlined above. Happy Hanukkah babies!!
