Joan Rivers opened up a lot of doors for women in comedy, and this year at Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards, Amy Schumer took the stage to pay tribute to the late comedian and her trail-blazing work.

"She wasn't just a woman or a person. She was a comic, and wanted to be treated as such," Schumer told the audience at Carnegie Hall. "I'm sure this speech would annoy her. She didn't want to be given credit for aspiring women. She wanted to be known as a great comedian. And, she was."

Schumer also used a little of Rivers’ self-deprecating humour in her speech to lighten the mood. “These are New York arms, right?" she said, letting everyone know that she's a native New Yorker. "In L.A., these register as legs."
