Founded in 1954, 2nd Avenue Deli is steeped in history. Its founder, Abe Lebewohl, came to America without being able to speak English but with a dream of opening his own restaurant. Upon opening the deli, it became a hit with the locals and was received with immense popularity. Tragically, Abe was murdered in 1996, but through his wife and family the deli remained open. The deli is famous for its smoked meats, fresh daily meats, and great customer service.

Deli: Ben & Izzy’s Deli

City: Toronto

An homage to the delis of old, Ben & Izzy’s Deli is an authentic kosher deli in Toronto’s Bathurst area. They make an incredible pastrami sandwich that’s increasingly hard to find in Toronto these days. They also have the smoker and steamer out in the open allowing patrons to see their food being made fresh daily. From the meats, to the breads, to the salads, Ben & Izzy’s by far one of the best delis around.
