On Sunday, Israel’s own Odeya Rush won the Olay Fresh Effects Breakout Star Award at the Teen Choice Awards for her performance in The Giver, which comes out this Friday.

The Giver, which focuses on a dystopian society where everyone has their use, and those that don’t aren’t needed anymore, has been mandatory reading for students in schools across Canada.

The book, written by Lois Lowry, won a Newbery Medal in 1994 and has remained popular with young adults. The book, which was originally a stand alone novel, has since been turned into a quartet by Lawry.

Rush, who was born in Haifa but who’s lived in the U.S.A since the age of nine, has appeared in several commercials and small television roles before finally receiving the part of Fiona in this year’s sure to be summer blockbuster.

According to The Times of Israel, Rush is more used to speaking English than Hebrew, however the media still insists on asking her opinion of the situation in Gaza.

You can see Rush in this month’s The Giver, and in next year’s film adaptation of the hit book series by R.L. Stine, and spinoff television show, Goosebumps.
