This is the End directors, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, are back at it again, but this time with a little help. Recently the two have decided to join forces with Sam Catlin, Breaking Bad writer, to create a new series for AMC.

The Superbad writers are working on a small screen adaptation of Preacher - a DC owned comic book series created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon.

The Preacher comic book storyline centres around Jesse Custer, a preacher in Annville, Texas. Doesn’t sound too exciting, right? It’s only until Custer becomes possessed by the supernatural Genesis that things begin to get interesting. It turns out that this supernatural creature is the rare offspring of both an angel and demon. Custer, armed with these new and confusing powers, ends up going on a journey looking for God who, in this storyline, abandoned Heaven when Genesis was born.

It seems like a really solid, and well-packed plot that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg could really have some fun with. However, there are some slight changes as indicated by the AMC description of the soon to be series:

Preacher follows Reverend Jesse Custer, a tough Texas preacher who has lost his faith, has learned that God has left Heaven and abandoned His responsibilities. He finds himself the only person capable of tracking God down, demanding answers, and making Him answer for His dereliction of duty.

Accompanying Jesse on his journey is his former girlfriend and a friendly vampire who seems to prefer a pint in the pub to the blood of the innocent. On his tail is one of the most iconic bad guys in print – an immortal, unstoppable killing machine named the Saint of Killers – a western lone gunman archetype whose sole purpose is to hunt and kill Jesse.”

“This is amazing! We’ve tried for seven years to work on Preacher and we’re so psyched AMC is finally letting us,” both Rogen and Goldberg gushed excitedly in a statement.

On board for the pilot episode for this series is Breaking Bad writer, Sam Caitlin, who will be both the showrunner and executive producer. In addition, Rogen and Goldberg will be consulting with both of the Preacher creators Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, throughout the development of the small screen adaptation.
