Initially launched in 2012, Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign focuses it’s efforts to encouraging kids to keep themselves active in order to prevent childhood obesity.

Since FLOTUS and The White House understand how influential music is in the lives of both young children and teenagers, the “Let’s Move” campaign is joining forces with the Partnership for a Healthier America and Hip Hop Public Health to promote and release a 19-song Hip Hop album, followed by 10 music videos.

"Throughout history, music has been a great teacher and motivator, from ABC’s and nursery rhymes to religious hymns and national anthems,” said Dr. Olajide Williams, founder of Hip Hop Public Health. “ It is time to harness this power for health.”

“Let’s Move” executive director and White House assistant chef, Sam Kass, explains that giving “these messages to kids in a way that’s not preachy” is a very effective method to achieve their goals.

“I think hip hop in particular – so many kids love hip hop. It’s such a core part of our culture,” he said. “…Particularly in the African- American community and the Latino community which is being disproportionately affected by those health issues.”

The album, entitled “Songs for a Healthier America” will feature some of the hip-hop communities most popular artists today including Matisyahu, Run DMC, Ariana Grande, Jordin Sparks, and Ashanti. Even Dr. Oz makes a guest appearance!
