Could Adam Lambert’s third studio release be an all-80’s cover album?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources are suggesting that the former ‘American Idol’ contestant’s record label, RCA Records, is encouraging him to drop the original tracks and focus on 80’s covers.

Lambert’s cover of Tears For Fears ‘Mad World’ on “American Idol’ is considered the best ever performed on the reality TV singing competition. He continues to perform the cover on tour, along with other Tears For Fears songs and 80’s favorites. The glam rocker also fronted several shows with Queen, and has shared his love for the decade in previous interviews, so the choice to move forward with an 80’s album makes sense.

Additionally, Lambert’s sophomore album ‘Trespassing’ sold 185,000 copies, while his debut ‘For Your Entertainment’ sold nearly 5 times that amount. Could RCA Records be pushing an 80’s album in an attempt to up sales?

Lambert’s rep told The Hollywood Reporter that “nothing has been determined yet,” but did acknowledge that “the idea of a concept album of songs from another era” has been discussed.
