‘How I Met Your Mother’ star, Jason Segel, has teamed up with ‘Kiki Strike’ author, Kirsten Miller, for a new middle-grade series called ‘Nightmares!’.

Segel and Miller have signed a three-book deal with Random House for the ‘Nightmares!’ trilogy, an adventure that tells the story of a group of friends who attempt to protect their neighborhood from fear.

“Ultimately, it’s a story about learning that we can accomplish anything, as long as we are brave enough to try,” Segel said in a statement.

Segel, who previously wrote the screenplays for ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’, ‘The Muppets’, and ‘The Five-Year Engagement’, first spoke about the books three weeks ago during a form with director Jonathan Demme.

‘Nightmares!’ is based upon a “super cheap” screenplay Segel sold eight years ago that never came to fruition. He recently bought it back for the same price he sold it for, and decided to re-work the concept into a children’s series.

The first book of the trilogy is set for a 2014 release.
