Veronica Roth’s ‘Divergent’, the latest Young Adult phenomenon to be adapted for film, has added three more actors to it’s roster, including the wonderfully talented daughter of rocker Lenny Kravitz- Zoe Kravitz.
‘Divergent’ stars Shailene Woodley (‘The Descendents’) as Tris, a teenager living in what’s left of Chicago. Society has been broken into five factions; the selfless Abnegation, the scholarly Erudite, the honest Candor, the peaceful Amity, and the brave Dauntless. Tris has reached the time in her life that she must decide which faction she will pursue, and then undertake the training necessary to succeed.
Zoe Kravitz (‘X-Men: First Class’) has been cast as Christina, Tris’ friend and fellow initiate, while Maggie Q (‘Nikita’) will play Tori the tattoo artist and Ansel Elgort (‘Carrie’) will play Tris’ brother Caleb. Kate Winslet is reportedly in talks to play Tris’ mother, but this casting is currently unconfirmed.
Kravitz’ recent acting credits include Angel Salvadore in ‘X-Men: First Class’, a recurring role in ‘Californication’, and a leading role alongside Will and Jaden Smith in M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming ‘After Earth’.
‘Divergent’ is the first book of a planned trilogy, similar to ‘Hunger Games’. The second book ‘Insurgent’ came up last fall, and the currently untitled third novel is set for an October publication.
