Comedian and actor, Sacha Baron Cohen had a quite the lucrative year in 2012, enough to make him the highest paid British actor in the U.S. Much of that can be attributed to the huge success of The Dictator, which grossed $177 million worldwide. According to Forbes.com, Cohen earned an estimated £20million ($31 million US) in 2012. The 41-year-old earned more than leading men such as Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks, Robert Pattinson, and Mark Wahlberg. The figures were tabulated from May 2011 until May 2012, and also include Cohen’s role as Julien the Lemur in Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted.

Cohen first rose to fame as “Ali G”, the character he created for Channel 4 in Britain. He continued success in both television and film with subsequent characters, “Borat” and “Brüno”. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006), which Cohen wrote, produced, and starred in grossed $260 million US worldwide. 2009’s Brüno, also written, produced, and starring the comedian, made $138 million US globally.

Most recently, Cohen appeared in the Academy Award nominated Les Misérables, as Thénardier. The film is up for 8 Oscars, including Best Picture. Next up for Cohen, will be a Freddie Mercury biopic, slated for release in 2014.
