It looks as if Israel will be Rihanna’s new home for the foreseeable future.

No, not the singer, but rather, the two-year-old female rhinoceros that arrived in Israel recently after being part of a safari in South Africa, and is now part of the Jewish State’s Ramat Gan safari.

The initiative is part of a global conservation effort to breed the endangered animals.

On January 1st, the Israeli safari announced that, after receiving dozens of Israeli names for the elephant, it decided to go with “Rihanna”, after the Barbados-born R&B superstar who last performed in Israel in Tel Aviv in 2010.

The name was the suggestion of an air-crew member who helped bring the half-ton Rihanna to Israel from Pretoria, South Africa.

Ramat Gan Safari spokesperson Sagit Horowitz was satisfied with the name choice since the last rhinoceros to come to Israel from the same South African safari was also named after a popular singer, Israeli Keren Peles.

“We hope Keren Peles and Rihanna will succeed in breeding in the future,” said Horowitz.

No matter how the pairs’ attempts at breeding work out, it could always be worse. Thankfully, Keren Peles wasn’t named after Chris Brown, who was charged with assaulting Rihanna in 2009 when the pair was romantically linked.
