Oscar-nominated German screenwriter, Fred Breinersdorfer (‘Sophie Scholl: The Final Days’), is scheduled to pen a feature film based on the extraordinary life of Anne Frank.

Anne Frank’s story has been told multiple times on film, most famously in the 1959 Oscar-winning adaptation of ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’, starring Mille Perkins. The 1980 TV movie based on Frank’s life, starring Melissa Gilbert as Anne, received many Emmy nominations.

Breinersdorfer’s version, shooting in 2013, will utilize some information from Frank’s famous diary, but also from collected historical documentation from the family. The new film will depict Frank’s whole life story, before and after her time in hiding.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Breinersdorfer will use a similar approach to that of ‘Sophie Scholl: The Final Days’, where he “used new archive material on the arrest and trial of the famed leader of the non-violent anti-Nazi resistance movement The White Rose to retell an historic tale filmed many times before.”

Spectrum and Zeitsprung Pictures will produce in collaboration with Anne Frank Fonds, a body set up by Anne’s father, Otto Frank, to preserve his daughter’s legacy and manage the rights to her diaries.
