As Israeli President Shimon Peres likes to say, “We used to be the people of the book. Now we're the people of the Facebook.”

Like every other aspect of the world, Jewish life has quickly adapted to the internet. Whether it’s culture, religion or politics, Judaism has shifted to the virtual world where almost everything is dominated today by social media.

Many have attempted to make their mark on the internet with Jewish-themed blogs, videos, and news sites. Shalom Life is proud to present the most successful of these social media endeavours.

#3: Jewlicious

Jewlicous has been operating since 2004, when it was started a group blog with the goal of representing a diversity of opinions regarding Judaism.

With now both a Russian version and a campus spin-off, the site has grown tremendously since it was founded by David Abitbol in Montreal.

The site currently has 11 bloggers who focus on anything between religious teachings, politics, life and culture, and so on.

Its mission statement says it aims to change “the way young adults affiliate and participate in Jewish life.”

“We support Jewish communities with training, resources, media, informal Jewish education, and events to foster young adult engagement. We develop and utilize networks, programming and social media, to promote creativity, social entrepreneurship, collaboration, inclusiveness and Jewish people-hood,” the site claims.

It also attempts to convey necessary information to younger audiences, while remaining non-denominational, in order for them to decide for themselves what role Judaism should play in their personal lives and identities.

“Jewlicious is a grass-roots community that celebrates, contemplates and investigates questions of Jewish identity,” the site reads.

Jewlicious can be found on Facebook both here and here and on Twitter (@Jewlicious).

#2: Jewish Treats

The most popular Jewish blog site on the internet these days is Jewish Treats, which aims to share interesting and enjoyable observations about Judaism daily, or as they call them, “Juicy Bits of Judaism.”

Launched in 2008 by the National Jewish Outreach Program in the U.S., Jewish Treats also diversifies its content to supply readers with religious and cultural news from around the Jewish world.

It also posts a series of suggested actions that not only incorporate Judaism into one’s life, but also ensures that people live healthy lives as well.

On Facebook and Twitter (@JewishTweets), where the blog has amassed 6,000+ “likes” and an astounding 28,000 followers respectively, external links to other Jewish news sites are also posted quite often.

Jewish Treats produces over 500 blog entries per year, and with a growing fan base, shows no signs of slowing down.
