With all due respect to Adam Sandler, British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding is no “wedding singer”.

The newest Jewish Brit to skyrocket to the top of the U.S. music charts since the late Amy Winehouse is enjoying her newfound success with “Lights”, a song she released close to a year ago, demonstrating the actual time needed to become an “overnight success”.

In 2010, Goulding became the second artist to top both the BBC's annual "Sound of..." poll and win the Critics' Choice Award at th Brit Awards in the same year, following Adeles win of both in 2008. After signing with Polydor Records in 2009, she released her first EP, "An Introduction to Ellie Goulding".

“Lights”, a powerful and compelling track, has been downloaded more than 1.9 million times, despite only reaching number 49 on the UK charts.

Goulding was invited to sing at the April 2011 wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton – both fans of the Jewish songstress – and the 25-year-old didn’t disappoint, nailing a cover of Elton John’s “Your Song” at their wedding reception at Buckingham Palace.

Goulding, who has a soprano vocal range and a musical style that has been compared to Kate Nash, Meiko, Lykke Li, and Tracy Thorn, also plays the drums.

The second of four children, Goulding began playing the clarinet at the age of nine, and at 14 began learning guitar. She attended Lady Hawkins' School in Kingston, where she won a main part in a school production, 'TheWizard Of Oz', as the scarecrow. She started songwriting at the age of 15 and while in college she won a singing competition.

Known as an avid runner who takes to the streets for up to six miles a day, Goulding is allegedly in a relationship with American producer and DJ, Sonny Moore
