In April 2006, then-president George W. Bush declared the month of May, to be Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) in recognition of 350 years of Jewish contribution to American society and culture. Now in its 6th year, JAHM has a myriad of events and programs planned nationwide.

"We are proud to commence efforts for JAHM 2012. JAHM's objective increases tolerance and understanding and decreases anti-Semitism. We thank our major benefactors, including Empire Kosher Poultry Inc., Manischewitz and The Biography (BIO) Channel. JAHM is historically rich due to the high-level involvement of some of our nation's leading historians and their continued commitment," Jennifer Mooney, JAHM national coordinator.

Apropos of the partnership betwixt JAHM and A&E Network’s BIO Channel, five programs in May will be dedicated to Jewish individuals who have made a substantial impact on American culture. Commencing on May 1st with a profile of ice cream tycoons, Ben & Jerry, the channel will feature additional profiles of Jon Stewart, Dustin Hoffman, Billy Crystal, and the venerable Albert Einstein.

"BIO's objective is to inform and engage viewers by giving them an insider's looks at the lives of exceptional people. We are pleased to expand this concept by educating teachers and students across America about the contributions of Jewish Americans," stated Libby O'Connell, senior VP and chief historian at A&E Networks.
