Courtney Love: The Muppets Raped Kurt Cobain

The Nirvana singers’ former wife claims The Muppets used Smells Like Teen Spirit without her permission

I might be one of the few people remaining that roots for Courtney Love. I have always been a huge fan of Hole and her acting talent is undeniable (The People vs. Larry Flynt, Man on the Moon)… unfortunately it’s been almost 20 years since Kurt Cobain has passed, and Love is still starting regular arguments about how his music is used.

I strongly believe that a musicians family has the right to protect the deceased’s music and legacy, but when you make the conscious choice to sell off all the copyrights to a company, you cannot then complain when they make decisions differently than you would have made.

Smells Like Teen Spirit was included in The Muppets movie, with the permission of Primary Wave Music (the company that purchased half of the rights to Kurt’s music and was granted exclusive right to distribute Nirvana’s entire catalogue) and additional permission from Kurt’s band mates, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic. In fact, Grohl even appeared in the film.

Although Courtney will receive profits from the song’s usage, she has decided to make her opinion public yet again. According to Love, The Muppets “raped” the memory of her late husband.

According to TMZ, Love thinks that the film bastardized Smells Like Teen Spirit without her permission. Guess what Courtney? You gave up your rights years ago… so start focusing on your career instead of Kurt’s and perhaps the public will start to respect you the way I once did.
