Comedic late night news anchors, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, received mysterious and threatening letters in the mail containing an unknown powdery substance.

The letters were sent to Viacom headquarters addressed to Stewart and Colbert. Three similar letters were mailed to US congressional offices. Authorities have not yet confirmed which congressmen were targeted, but we do know that it was two Senate state offices and one House of Representatives district office.

All letters came with a warning that more will be on the way.

Initial testing of the powdery substance found in the envelopes has tested negative for bio-agents, but a Capitol Hill official shares that future letters might not prove so lucky.

"Although all letters received thus far have proved harmless, it is essential that we treat every piece of suspicious mail as if it may, in fact, be harmful," Terrance Gainer, Senate Sergeant at Arms, wrote in an email to congress.

The FBI is aware of the situation and “working with those law enforcement agencies affected to determine if the mailings are related.”

“We take these matters seriously and will investigate fully,” FBI spokesperson, Jason Pack, told FOX.
