NYU Professor Fired Over James Franco’s Bad Grade

Jose Angel Santana, former “Directing the Actor II” Prof at NYU, was allegedly fired last year for giving A-list student, James Franco, a “D” in his class. According to Santana, the actor missed 12 of the 14 classes that were required as a part of his Master’s in Fine Arts.

Santana is now suing NYU in the Manhattan Supreme Court to get his job back. He claims that Franco took advantage of his celebrity status, and that other teachers placated him with good grades to keep the school happy. Apparently, having celebrities attend universities translates into lots of money for the school.

“The school has bent over backwards to create a Franco-friendly environment, that’s for sure,” Santana told The New York Post. “The university has done everything in its power to curry favor with James Franco.”

After graduating from the program, Franco was hired on by NYU to teach a course on adapting poetry into short films. Santana also alleges that Franco received good grades from other professors as a thank you for hiring fellow prof, Jay Anania.

Franco was responsible for hiring Anania to write and direct “William Vincent” (starring Franco) which was featured at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival.

“In my opinion, they’ve turned the NYU graduate film degree into swag for James Franco’s purposes, a possession, something you can buy,” Santana said.

In response to Santana’s allegations, Franco has asserted that his professor just was not comfortable with having a celebrity in his class.

Last year, Franco told Showbiz411.com, that he “did the work” and “did well in everything else.”
