The Detroit Windsor International Film Festival honoured Israeli director Guilhad Emilio Schenker for his film Lavan by awarding him with best short film this week.

The film tells the taboo tale of a prison guard falling in love with an inmate. I know what you’re thinking, are they gay? Is this a female prison? What the…

Actually, it tells the story of Gioza, a female “White Torture” prison guard, who falls in love with Nick, a criminal. The twist, she is obsessed with him and poor Nick has no idea she exists. (This sounds steamy already!)

Even though the film is based on the Iranian idea of “White Torture,” the storyline (i.e. events, characters) are 100% fictitious.

This award came one week after he snagged the award for Best Director at the Washington Film Festival.

Schenker is honoured to have won this award and sincerely thanks everyone who has been a part of it.

He says that he hopes, "that the honor and reception that the film won worldwide will help him forever.”

With a plot like Lavan, it will probably be difficult to forget.
