Jonathan Keltz -- one of the stars of Disney’s Prom -- was born and raised in the state of New York, but he had a Canadian prom. How does that work? Well, Keltz moved with his family to Toronto, where he went to high school and nabbed some of his early acting gigs (including a recurring role on Degrassi: The Next Generation). He’s since appeared in a number of TV shows and movies, including American Pie Presents Beta House and the Disney Channel movie Dadnapped. Keltz can also be seen on HBO’s Entourage as Jake Steinberg. The 23-year-old actor dishes advice for prom, what it’s like working with Jeremy Piven on Entourage and talks about his upcoming projects in this exclusive interview.

SL: What got you into acting?

JK: I'm fortunate that I got into acting at a young age. After feeling the passion young I started performing and taking acting classes at 10 and then when I was living in Toronto I started working as an actor at 16. I'm grateful my parents were supportive so I could get in the game early.

How did your own prom compare with the one in Disney’s Prom?

Ha ha they were a little different. I went to high school in Toronto so I went to a Canadian prom. Same as prom in the States but just a little further north. Prom was fun but it wasn't put together with the same heart Nova Prescott (Aimee Teegarden) put into the one we had in the movie.

What advice would you give teens who are getting ready for prom?

Relax, have fun and take the pressure off yourself and the night. You've worked hard to get here so have a relaxed drama-free night. Oh, and dance to at least three songs.

You’ve been playing high-school characters for a couple of years. Was it nice to take on a completely different role on Entourage?

It was a dream come true. I've been a huge fan of the show since it started airing and playing Jake has been a blast. It’s been great starting to age up out of high school and play older characters.

What’s it like working with Jeremy Piven?

I love working with Piven and watching him film other scenes. He's always present in the moment and spontaneously organic. I learn a lot working with him.

You spent a number of years in Toronto. What are some of the things that you miss about the city?

Family first. My parents are there so I definitely miss them most, but Toronto is a fantastic city that has done a lot for me. A lot of my best friends are there thanks to my high-school experience. Beautiful city but it’s the people I miss the most.

Degrassi: The Next Generation was a launching pad for many actors. Do you still keep in touch with anyone from the show?

Ha ha Degrassi is a factory! I still keep in touch with Miriam from the show and Nina and I have been friends since before she was on the show. I'll be shouting at Aubrey the next time I'm at a Drake concert.

You recently shot a horror movie with Christian Slater. Are you a fan of the genre?

Absolutely! Fright Night was the first horror flick I saw. I was in Grade 1 and couldn't sleep a wink that night. There’s a remake coming out. This time I'll be able to sleep.

What’s next for you?

Right now we are shooting the final season of Entourage which has been sad, but fun. Playback the movie with Slater will hopefully be out later this year as well as a movie called Transgression that I shot in Barcelona in the fall. Other than that, hustlin’ to get the next gig.
