MTV VMA Nods Announced
MTV announced its list of nominees on August 3rd for the 2010 Video Music Awards. Lady Gaga leads all nominees with a record-setting 13 nominations. The singer received nods for a few of her hit singles, including “Bad Romance,” “Telephone” and “Video Phone.” Lady Gaga also has a chance to beat Peter Gabriel’s record of most wins in a single night. Gabriel previously won nine awards with his smash hit “Sledgehammer.”
Aside from Lady Gaga, several pop favourites such as Beyonce, Katy Perry and Canadian Justin Bieber also received multiple nominations. Not to be outdone, Toronto rapper Drake scored two nods himself. The first-time nominee is up for the Best Hip-Hop Video category for “Forever” (featuring Eminem and Lil Wayne) and Best Male Video for “Find Your Love.” Drake will compete against music heavyweights such as Eminem, Jay-Z and Usher.
A couple of other Jewish artist are also up for the moonman statue. David Guetta’s collaboration with Akon, “Sexy Chick,” is nominated for Best Dance Music Video. The category also lists Cascada, Usher, Lady Gaga and Jason Derulo. Ben Goldwasser’s band, MGMT, is nominated for Best Rock Video for their hit “Flash Delirium.” MGMT is nominated alongside 30 Seconds to Mars, Florence + the Machine, Muse and Paramore. MGMT, who is also featured in Kid Cudi’s song “Pursuit of Happiness,” is up for Best Hip-Hop Video.
