As we all know, Israel is a prominent technology hub in the world. The country has developed a number of innovations that have transformed the ways in which we live.
Amongst these technological inventions includes the mobile application, Waze, a community based navigation app, which focuses on crowd-surfing to derive data concerning traffic, road hazards, gas prices and police presence. The navigator then curates your route accordingly.
In June 2013, tech giant Google bought Waze for $1.03 billion. People were scared Waze would become more Google branded; however the app remains unique in its own existence.
Now, Waze is employing actor Arnold Schawrzenegger as a voiceover to give directions on the Waze app. Schwarzenegger will provide users with turn-by-turn directions as his character from The Terminator. This way, Waze will garner a significant amount of attention and feedback from users, while the highly anticipated new film, Terminator Genisys will simultaneously be promoted.
Schwarzenegger’s famous line, “hast la vista, baby,” will be heard at the end of each trip from the navigation app, along with a couple of other popular phrases. Despite Schwarzenegger’s appearance in the mobile application, the actor only spent one hour recording with Waze, so users can expect limited voice directions from him.
Waze has also used celebrity voices for navigation in the past when they paired with Universal Studios back in 2013. Amongst these voices was Kevin Hart, one of TIME’s most 100 influential people, along with Terry Crewes.
Waze has no doubt revolutionized driving for many individuals, and even made Gartner’s “Cool Vendors” list of innovative technology.
