Pressure for operating in the West Bank has resulted in the well-known Ahava Dead Sea minerals cosmetics company contemplating a move inside of Israel’s borders.

Owned by the Kibbutz Mitzpe Shalem, the company is located about a mile away from the Dead Sea. According to the Israeli business daily Globes, the company is allegedly contemplating the opening of a new production plant in the Tamar Regional Council in southern Israel.

While Ahava Cosmetics was previously a target of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement due to their presence in the West Bank, they are adamant that the potential move is more about their needs as a company, rather than politics.

“In light of expanding production needs and changes in regulations for cosmetic products in some Western nations, Ahava is indeed examining the possibility of opening an additional factory. One of the possibilities is the Tamar Regional Council. Other possibilities are also being looked into. As of now there is no final decision,” the company said in a statement.

Notably, the news of Ahava’s pending decision to change locations comes after SodaStream announced the closure of its West Bank factory and the creation of a new one in Lehavim, a Negev community near Beersheba in Israel’s south.
