One of Adolf Hitler’s earlier paintings (see above) is headed for auction, with an astounding $30,000 initial asking price.

The work, which is from 1912, long before he was the leader of the Nazi party, is being put up for sale by the Nate D. Sanders gallery in Los Angeles, California.

The painting is one of his earlier watercolours, and according to the catalogue is, “indicative of Hitler’s floral work, which isn’t as prolific as the architecture and Vienna street life scenes he did at the time.” The painting is signed by Hitler in the bottom left corner, and carries a Morgenstern’s stamp on the back.

Samuel Morgenstern, a Jewish art dealer, was one of the few people who purchased Hitler’s works, or took his art career seriously, back before World War II. When he was younger, Hitler tried to pursue a career in the arts, but was rejected twice from the Vienna Art Academy. Morgenstern, however bought several of his paintings back before the war, according to several reports.

Morgenstern passed away in 1943, in the Lodz ghetto, after his gallery was seized by Nazis during the Holocaust.

This is not the first of Hitler’s works to go up for auction. Back in 2014, another of his works sold for $161,000. The Nate D. Sanders gallery had also placed signed copies of “Mein Kampf,” the book written by Adolf Hitler, up for sale back in 2014 and they even managed to sell one for an astounding $64,850.

The current painting up for sale is expected to bring in similarly high prices for the gallery.
