Israel Antiquities Authority Launches New Game For Children

If you’ve ever tried getting your children interested in history and archaeology, but couldn’t get them off their phone to do it, then you may be in luck. According to The Jerusalem Post, the Israel Antiquities Authority has recently announced the launch of their new mobile game for children, currently available for all Apple products.

The app, which is called “Dig Quest: Israel,” features an archaeologist named Gabe who leads children through some of the biggest finds in Israel, including the Dead Sea Scrolls at the Qumran caves and a Roman period mosaic from Lod. The game offers two unique stories and over 30 levels for children, with more games in development.

According to the organisation, “At Lod, you clear the dirt to uncover an ancient Roman period mosaic, and then play a fast-paced quiz-style game using your smarts and powers of observation to identify and classify the animals and objects on the mosaic. In the Qumran caves, you discover fragments of the 2,000 year-old Dead Sea Scrolls that you piece together in a puzzle game. Then you scan the scrolls to reveal their text more clearly, mirroring the advanced spectral imaging process performed by the IAA [Antiquities Authority] team in the laboratories.”

The game allows children, between the ages of seven to eleven, to develop archaeological skills, learn about history, and immerse themselves in technology.

Be sure to download it on iTunes today.
