Apple and Tinder have been spoofed and parodied dozens of times, each version adding to the company’s popularity. Now, the Israeli-made Waze navigation app is enjoying a witty parody of its own: The Waze Runner.

American director Oren Kaplan took the navigation app usually used to outsmart traffic and mashed it into a pseudo trailer for the new film, The Maze Runner. In the spoof, Waze – which was bought up by Google for $1.03 billion in 2013 – is used to help the teenagers navigate a killer maze.

The skit was made as a commercial for the American Quiznos restaurant chain and Toasty.TV.

“I don’t know how I get anywhere without my GPS,” says protagonist Thomas, at the start of the send-up. Then the familiar Waze car icon rolls across the screen in front of the gigantic maze.

The clip includes a whole slew of quick references to today’s technology-obsessed culture as well as jabs at how society has let (navigation) apps take over our decision-making.

Social media has welcomed the parody. Even James Dashner, author of the post-apocalyptic science-fiction book, The Maze Runner, tweeted to his fans: “If you haven’t seen this high-quality, hilarious parody of #MazeRunner yet do it now.”
