Shalom Life speaks to Gal Brill, CEO of Brow.si, on the company's success, innovation, and being listed as the 2nd hottest Israeli startup on Mashable

As the hightech industry continues to evolve, with app developers and online businesses becoming more commonplace than stores that exist in the physical realm, ways to perfect and improve the industry continue to develop as well.

After all, communicating with one another online via smartphones, tablets and other such gadgets is a fairly recent phenomenon, and naturally, despite the most successful and established research & development centres out there, there will always be kinks that need to be worked out, or newer and better solutions to problems that were otherwise left unsolved.

One of these issues, it seems, has been utilizing the increasing percentage of people who absorb all of their online content via their smartphones. Nowadays, businesses and publications still create websites that are catered to those who peruse the web strictly on their macbooks and surfaces, but often fail to create a user experience that is ideal for those of us on the go, who want to digest our information on the bus, during break from work, or sitting across from friends, half-listening as they ramble on and you read the latest juicy gossip piece on Gawker.

Gal Brill, CEO of MySiteApp, and its most successful application, Brow.si (pronounced brow-see), plans to change that.

My first few attempts to get in touch with Brill, via Skype, are unsuccessful. Finally, I get through, and after exchanging pleasantries, I lament on how difficult it is to Skype with people in Israel. "Ah yes," he sympathizes, "we certainly don't have the best Internet connection worldwide....But we do have some of the best companies."

Moving forward, he explains how, via Brow.si, publications, companies, non-profits and the like can regain control of their mobile monetization and engagement.

"The best way to describe Brow.si is thinking about a door," he begins. "We all know how to handle a door; we see it, there is a handle, you pull on it, the door opens. It's consistent. We noticed on the mobile web, however, that there are many inconsistencies. Each and every site offers the same functionality, but in a different way. This leads to user frustration."

"With Brow.si, think of the door as a floating menu, or a floating layer on top of the mobile web," he continues. "It places a button on the bottom left corner of the screen, and once you click on it, it opens a full fledged door to any functionality you can dream of, giving the end user a way to cope with the mobile web. You can enlarge font size, you can share it to various social networks with one click, you can do a quick search, etc. Essentially, Brow.si is a platform that you can develop and add to with mini-apps. So what were building here is the next platform to develop on."

In September of this year, the British-American news site Mashable listed Brow.si as the 2nd 'Hottest Startup in Israel'. Considering the amount of companies coming out of 'Startup Nation,' that is high praise indeed.

Also, considering the fact that Brow.si started in June of this year, and that its raised $3.2 million in investment funds since then, is merely confirmation that Brill is obviously on to something here.

According to the official website, Brow.si "cares for a mobile site's engagement levels. For example, it makes sharing much easier with its a Toggle on/Toggle off button across the three major social networks:LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Or send push notifications to mobile web readers — Brow.si scans the site's RSS feed and converts it to a push notifications that the user can read on the Brow.si reader, directly from his or her device."

It apparently makes the mobile web experience a heck of a lot simpler, explains Brill.


Brill is also CEO of MySiteApp, which he launched three years ago to help publishers develop more native apps. "Eventually I realized the mobile web is rapidly growing, and that's when we decided to launch Brow.si," he explains. It seems he's been satisfied with the response his latest 'app' has been receiving from the online community. "We received high traction 'right off the bat,' with investors showing confidence in both the company, and its products," he adds.
