Business: Uberflip

Based Out Of: Toronto, Canada

Entrepreneur(s): Yoav Schwartz, Randy Frisch

Industry: Digital Publishing/Content Marketing

In March of 2012, after establishing itself as a leader in the digital publishing and content marketing spectrum, a Toronto-based startup known as Mygazines underwent a complete rebranding process in an effort to introduce a much broader audience to their innovative digital marketing platform, one that takes your existing content and transforms it into a personalized, custom flipbook, providing a more enhanced, consumer-friendly, mobile-ready experience.

Since 2008, the company now known as Uberflip has made headlines in the technology sphere for its innovative approach in 'converting traditional print versions of magazines, flyers, catalogs, brochures, corporate documents, textbooks, and newspapers into branded digital editions.'

Provides 'better user engagement'

In the mere year since its rebranding, Uberflip's customer base has reportedly grown by 362%.

The company reached an important milestone just last month when it signed on Hubspot, an inbound marketing software provider, as its 1,000th customer.

"Hubspot was a huge win for us," says Yoav Schwartz, Uberflip's Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer. "It’s really validating that we are doing things right in the content marketing space. Through leveraging our platform, Hubspot creates a better engagement experience for users."

Besides Hubspot, Uberflip's current client roster includes Research In Motion, Reuters, and Microsoft.

"Uberflip makes it very easy for people to create optimized mobile experiences. You can trigger an experience from the offline world and it will surely look good on any device," stated Paul Cunnington, Director, Startup Business Group - Microsoft.

Schwartz notes that approximately 10,000 companies have used their software, with over 100,000 personalized flipbooks created.

'Empowers content on any device'

With new software and technology in perpetual development, Uberflip 'empowers content on any device.' Since mastering the art of converting PDF's into engaging, user-friendly experiences, Uberflip can also transform your content from social media sites like Twitter and Instragram into a web app that is sharable through a unique URL address.

"Historically, our base product has been about PDF's," Schwartz explains to me. "Taking this very blackbox experience and making it usable on the web today, specifically with social media. Our clients take whatever PDF, emails, marketing campaigns, tweets, and Uberflip distributes it via a single link, making the content much more accessible to the user."

What truly makes Uberflip stand out, specifically amongst other startups, is their current business plan.

They have one.

Whereas the majority of startups that emerge in the hightech industry normally don't look to generate profit until after they've established a user base, Uberflip is a fully 'bootstrapped' company, fuelled by Schwartz, co-founder and COO Randy Frisch, and Uberflip's close to thirty employees which have helped build a revenue-focused business that "has helped us grow since day one," according to Schwartz.
