Google Street View Prepares for Israel Launch
Google’s much loved, and often sued, Street View will launch in Israel on April 22, which will include street level photographs from major Israeli cities and even the Dead Sea.
The launch event, scheduled for this Sunday, will occur eight months after Israeli officials gave Google the go-ahead to capture the country using their fleet of specially adapted cars.
While regarded as one of Google’s greatest services, Street View has been involved in several litigations worldwide including having to pay €100,000 in France and €150,000 in Belgium to settle privacy suits.
In order to receive the green light in Israel, which is known of its strict security measures and privacy concerns, Google had to guarantee Israeli authorities that residents had an efficient and reliable way to blur our personal information taken in photographs before being published online.
Google was also required to resolve any litigation resulting from its service in Israel, rather than in the U.S.
Google’s Street View will include maps and street photographs of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, Dead Sea, Kinneret, and other locations including historic cities like Nazareth and Mitzpe Ramon.
